With the coronavirus having everyone dive into TV shows they may have missed or slept-on over the years, it can be easy to forget that we're at least getting the springtime new television slate hitting us over the head daily. Not saying you can't get your catch-up binge on, but remember: there's plenty fire dropping that has never aired before.

This week, there's only one HBO show on this list! HBO ain't lacking, but this one's a doozy if you take the time. Elsewhere on the dial, we've got Better Call Saul doing God-level storytelling, Better Things hitting us with that raw reality, and Briarpatch delivering on the promises made during its premiere. Exciting time to really pay attention to these new stories.

You know the routine; a simple stroll gives you a look at the best on your screens this week; plan accordingly.

The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Week: 'The Hunt,' 'Better Call Saul,' and More by William Goodman

What a terrible week to be an avid movie and TV lover; COVID19 has practically brought the Hollywood machine to a standstill. From Tom Hanks(!) catching coronavirus to a few of 2020's highly anticipated movies (No Time To Die and Fast 9) being delayed for months, it's hard to get hype over...well, anything. That said, three of the four selections this week are things you can watch at home, so while everyone is forced to stay indoors so they don't fall victim to the pandemic, you can at least be entertained.

Not only are we finally done with The Outsider (a blessing?), we're just getting started with AMC's Better Call Saul (a show you should be binging TF out of to catch up if you fell off). And while this week's movie selection probably won't make our Best Movies of 2020 list, they are fun, and one of them got thrown on Hulu a week early! You legit have no excuse.

You know the routine; scroll down for our picks for best movies and TV shows of the week, then plan accordingly.

After an HBO-led winter, it's dope to see some other channels starting to emerge and deliver quality talent. That's right, FX returned this week with a full slate of premieres, including the return of a steady favorite. FX on Hulu is the actual truth.

These aren't the only fire that dropped this week, but they are the best. This is truly the calm before the storm; big things are going to continue coming through, making this list more robust than it normally was. It works, as we can't want to fully be submerged with fire television and film. Savor these moments, scroll, and figure out what you need to make a part of your viewing.

The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Week: 'The Invisible Man', 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', and More by William Goodman

With another month down the drain, 2020 seems to be getting off to a lightning-fast start, and we still haven't hit peak movie time yet (although there's a grip of great television out there, and on the horizon).

This week, we have a pair of our standard picks; we can't help it if HBO knows how to pick 'em. We also examine Pete Davidson's latest Netflix special, as well as Universal's latest Blumhouse horror, the Elisabeth Moss-starring The Invisible Man. It's not a blow-away week, but it has some heat.

You know the score; we've got our picks down below. Scroll down to see our thoughts. You're welcome.

'Better Call Saul' Season 5: First Impressions by William Goodman

Over the last two nights, AMC has been kicking Better Call Saul into high-gear with the premiere of its fifth season. And while I hate having to say this, Potential Spoilers Beyond This Point in The Piece, because people have dropped off from watching what's consistently been one of the best shows on television. This isn't surprising; slow-burns can be cool for season-long stories, but many don't seem to stay dedicated when that burn goes on for seasons. Just look at what happened to Mr. Robot's viewership; Season 2 took a lot of steam out of the saga, only to come back harder for its third and (phenomenal) fourth season. Them's the breaks, but it feels weird considering how much people loved Breaking Bad; y'all made series creator Vince Gilligan make El Camino!

That said, with the end of Season 4 of Better Call Saul, we finally got to see Saul fully emerge. And now, over two nights, we've been able to see him operate...and the ramifications of those actions. We're in the end game, and excited, so I decided to holler at William Goodman—frequent Complex contributor and fan of the series—to share some thoughts about Saul's return.

The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Week: 'The Outsider,' 'Briarpatch,' and More by William Goodman

In a week that featured us sharing what we learned in London about No Time to Die, the fun we had watching Birds of Prey, and giving you a look at the best films NOT nominated for Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, it's kind of wild that there's still dope content to talk about. We might be stuck in the doldrums of February, but there are some (uncut) gems out there waiting to be discovered. No, we won't be talking about Uncut Gems in this post.

Actually, this feature won't even talk about movies; it's an all-TV party over here. From the latest in Larry David's solid Season 10 to Cynthia Erivo going in on The Outsider to USA's new Rosario Dawson-led series Briarpatch, we've got the TV you should've been checking for covered.

You know what to do; follow along for our reasons WHY you should be up on these shows, then get up on these shows. Simple.

Sinister Spinoffs: 6 Spider-Man Villains Worthy of Standalone Films by William Goodman

Between VenomJoker, and the release of the Jared Leto-led Morbius trailer, it seems the (::extreme Stefon voice::) hottest trend in comic book movies right now is villains. As Sony looks to capitalize on what properties and characters from Marvel they still have access to, the studio will probably continue to leverage more of Spider-Man’s iconic rogue’s gallery for their future cinematic projects.

So, in honor of Morbius, we figured it’d be worthwhile to dive deep into the catalog of Spidey villains to determine who might be a worthy candidate for a spin-off flick. Considering the fact that Sony once thought spinning off Aunt May into her own movie was a good idea, no character is off-limits—but some certainly have a better foundation for a solo project than others. With those caveats in mind, here are six contenders who could fare well in a standalone project. Oh, and Sony, if you don’t have my number, you find me on Twitter.

The Best TV Seasons of the 2010s by William Goodman

Peak TV makes granular TV analysis and obsessions like best episodes harder—but not impossible. It's one thing to highlight the best TV series from a decade, but zooming in on seasons is much more fun and at times, deepens the story. After all, a season of television is like the journey a series goes on just miniaturized. There are narrative arcs, self-contained beginnings and endings, and, in the best of the best, a rollercoaster ride bottling the greatest qualities that series has to offer.

A great season is sometimes a window of an amazing show at its creative peak, or perhaps the one time the stars aligned for a series that never got the juice back again. They showcase the potential of a failed or canceled series at a moment in time, or the instance when things clicked and a now storied series grew into itself. Some of these series wouldn't be eligible for a best of the decade list as a whole (at least, a truncated one) but in the context of seasons, their flashes of brilliance will live on memorably forever. But in most cases, the entries on this list represent when one of the gems of the small screen shone brightest. Here are all of the highlights within the highlights.
