EarFun-Air_Model_Shooting_1.jpg

When it comes to audio companies, there’s a brand new player in the game every time you blink. We get it. As companies like Apple and Sony push more and more users into the wireless headphone and earbud space, a growing number of people are looking for reliable Bluetooth products that don’t cost $300. And because we’ve written so much about the best cheap wireless earbuds, we’re asked to review new headphones all the time. A lot of them aren’t very good.

All that to say, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about EarFun’s Air earbuds when I received a unit for review. But I certainly walked away impressed. If you want to get cheap wireless earbuds, you have to be willing to give something up. Premium earbuds offer waterproofing, noise cancelation and stellar audio quality. You’re lucky to get 1/3 of those features in most budget headphones and earbuds, but the EarFun Air offers fantastic audio and a IPX7 waterproof rating.

The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Week: 'Perry Mason' by William Goodman

This article originally appeared on Complex.com

In the first half of HBO’s Perry Mason, the gritty, True Detective-esque vibes felt tired and perfunctory, stunning Matthew Rhys performance and incredible visuals notwithstanding. That may have just been bait to hook early viewers, though. The show kicked into a whole new gear once this reboot started to more closely resemble the OG, lawyer version of the titular character that men 50+ all know and love. Rhys-Perry’s transition from P.I. to Public Defender clicks the series into place in a fun way—insofar as an often dour show like this allows itself to be fun.

It’s crazy how quickly technology moves. Even just a few years ago, the idea of Bluetooth earbuds seemed like something that was inherently expensive, with a high-quality version of the wireless headphones being prohibitively expensive. But as time has progressed, it’s gotten easier to find a quality set of earbuds for a price that won’t break your bank account. There are plenty of fantastic brands that provide great options if you’re looking to spend your money elsewhere.

If you’re willing to buy a brand that’s not as fancy as something like Apple, Samsung or Beats, you’ll still find plenty of worthy options. In fact, many of the brands on this list have premium features like waterproofing, easy pairing and long-battery life. Looking outside of the box doesn’t mean you’ll have to forgo a good pair.

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up 10 of the best sets of cheap wireless earbuds, all for under $100. After all, going wire-free shouldn’t cost your paycheck. Our selections, below.

10 Years Later, 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' Is Still Ahead of Its Time by William Goodman

This article originally appeared on Complex.com

About halfway through Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Michael Cera's titular character, wonders aloud why his indie rock band, Sex Bob-Omb, can’t have their “own secret shows.” Sardonic drummer Kim Pine (Alison Pill) quickly retorts by stating the band’s lack of clout makes it so “all of [their] shows are secret shows.”

Scott is too in his head to fully process Kim’s comment, but the dialogue is much more than a joke. The rapid-fire exchange doubles as a treatise of the Edgar Wright film’s reception upon its initial 2010 release, wherein it played to small audiences as a veritable secret show of its own. Scott Pilgrim was a box office Sex Bob-Omb, making a little over $10 million off its $60 million budget, but found a second life as a cult classic upon home release. Examining the movie adaptation of the Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novel series—the 10th anniversary of its release is today, August 13—and it’s clear Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is like an indie band who dropped an album that hardly anyone heard but managed to be the best representation of its genre.

Review: Sony’s WH-1000XM4 Noise-Canceling Headphones Are the Best Ever by William Goodman

Companies can get cheeky when it comes to new product activations. Case-in-point, when sending over their brand new WH-1000XM4s noise-canceling headphones for review, Sony included the headphones inside a box that looked like one of the floor tiles from the futuristic room at the end of 2001: A Space Odyessy. The notes inside stated that the box was a decibel monitor; the interior of the box contained light sensors that would then display a pattern whenever it detected a noise. All of this is just a fancy way of visually communicating an auditory experience — and to physically show off the audio superiority of Sony’s excellent new noise-canceling headphones.

The XM4 (better known as the 1000X Mark 4, if you want to get fancy) is the 2020 version of Sony’s WH-1000XM3 wireless headphones. Not only were these stellar noise-canceling headphones one of the most popular products with SPY readers in 2019 and 2020, but they were also our top-pick for the best noise-canceling headphones. How can you improve on a product that’s already the best over-the-ear noise-canceling headphone on the market? That’s the challenge Sony looked to face with this iteration, and the results, while subtle, move the needle forward.

Here’s Why the Dior x Air Jordan 1 is the Hottest Sneaker of 2020 by William Goodman

christian-dior-air-jordan-sneakers.jpg

The sneaker industry has always been hot. Many 90s kids remember how they coveted Jordans during their grade school days as the greatest to ever do it lead the Bulls to championship after championship. Along with that winning mentality came the desire to be like Mike and that meant owning his shoes. And so a multi-million dollar industry was born, with each year bringing a hot release that collectors had to have. While the must-have shoe often differs from brand to brand, Nike and Air Jordan have always been in the mix, but it feels like it’s been a while since we saw a collaboration as hot as the Dior x Air Jordan 1.

What the 'Mulan' Disney+ Deal Means for Moviegoing by William Goodman

This article originally appeared on Complex.com

COVID-19 has been hard on all industries, including Hollywood. The production delays on films and TV shows that we saw early on during the pandemic, not to mention the shuffling of release dates, have exposed cracks in Hollywood’s foundation and shown just how much the rise of streaming services has impacted the traditional theater experience.

Among the hardest-hit companies has been Disney. Many of the company’s lines of business—amusement parks, cruises, resorts, and entertainment—have all been radically disrupted by the pandemic, sending their stock into a downward spiral for the first half of the year. As the future open date for movie theater chains continues to tumble down the calendar due to increased corona cases, studios like Disney are looking to unconventional solutions to release their movies. However, news from a recent earnings call could signify a new paradigm shift for how Disney plans to release their films for the foreseeable future.

10 Linen Shirts to Keep You Feeling—and Looking—Cool This Summer by William Goodman

comp.jpg

As lovely as it would be to just live in T-shirts all summer long, there are situations where we have to (and maybe want to) look a bit nicer. The season’s heat, however, can make wearing proper shirts a less than pleasant experience. But all it takes is the choice of a lighter material to find summer shirting nirvana.

Linen has gotten a bad rap for how fussy it can be to care for (i.e. having to iron it a lot) but that’s largely a misconception. Don’t fight the wrinkle! Linen looks best when it’s been lived in. Plus, linen has aged down a bit in recent years, which means the shirts are more stylish than the fusty iterations you may have seen your Dad wearing on vacation. With patterns like tie-dye and breezy camp-collared silhouettes, there’s a version of this warm weather essential to suit every taste.

To help you cool down, we’ve rounded up ten of our favorite linen shirts that you can dress up or down depending on the circumstance. Here are the best ones to buy now.
